O Holy Night

Merry Christmas from the Kier family!

Like many people, I have my favorite Christmas carols. Some are fun, old, and have many memories, but then there are others that just seem to speak to you. As a child, I pretty much loved anything about Santa and Rudolph, because, well, I was a child and did not understand the true meaning of Christmas and what it means. Then one year when I was somewhere about 10-13 I was watching a Hallmark movie (cheese, I know, but I get sucked it, even at that early of an age) and one of their commercials was a little boy waiting on his big brother to come home for the annual sing around the piano. The older brother was late and it was skeptical to if he was going to make it so the little boy, prodded by his family, starts singing the song by himself. The song was "O Holy Night." The big brother comes in as the little boy is finishing off the first verse, but I tell this story not because the commercial pulls at your heart strings, but because, that was the moment, I fell in love with my favorite Christmas song. While it is not the most popular song that you hear on the radio, and difficult to sing, it is beautiful none of the less....

Here are the words to "O Holy Night":

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining, It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining. Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices! O night divine, the night when Christ was born; O night, O holy night, O night divine! O night, O holy night, O night divine! Led by the light of faith serenely beaming, With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand. O'er the world a star is sweetly gleaming, Now come the wisemen from out of the Orient land. The King of kings lay thus lowly manger; In all our trials born to be our friends. He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger, Behold your King! Before him lowly bend! Behold your King! Before him lowly bend! Truly He taught us to love one another, His law is love and His gospel is peace. Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother. And in his name all oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, With all our hearts we praise His holy name. Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we, His power and glory ever more proclaim! His power and glory ever more proclaim!

I hope your Christmas was an O holy night. Merry Christmas!

That's my favorite carol, too. Brings tears to my eyes every time.
